My Post-shoot Skincare Routine

My Post-shoot Skincare Routine

Hello hello ♥️

Resetting my skin after a long day of different products being used is a must. Over time, I’ve found that less is more with skincare. We’re made to think that having 50 step skincare routines is normal when, in reality, for some it may work, but for most of us it’s actually not necessary. And it’s expensive! Skincare is such a trial and error thing. Something that can work so well for someone may have the opposite effect on another, so if you are on your skincare journey right now, try to find what works for you. My best advice is to be patient and kind to yourself. You will eventually find the perfect routine. I’ll be sharing my exact post-shoot skincare routine and how I reset my skin after a long day on set. All of these products are my holy grail, and if they were ever discontinued, I’d probably cry for 7 days straight. So brands, if you’re seeing this, please don’t discontinue these products. 😊

I’ve been consistent with this routine for over three years now, and this is what works for me; I know exactly how my skin reacts.

Step 1: let’s clean the skin

Every good post-shoot skincare routine starts with thoroughly cleansing the skin to remove makeup and product buildup. Personally, I don’t like the feel of makeup on my skin. For work, sometimes they have to go really heavy, as makeup doesn’t always show up as prominent on camera. Depending on the look, my face can feel like it’s been dipped in cement. So cleansing is probably my favourite thing. Plus, it’s so satisfying watching the makeup melt away.

Speaking of melting, I swear by my Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm. Now, I used this way before the TikTok hype on it. It is genuinely a good product for removing any makeup. I don’t use makeup wipes or micellar water, as I find that they can aggravate my skin. The cleansing balm is my version of a makeup wipe. And the other positive is that it melts away the tough mascara! Sometimes I’ll wear a full face and avoid putting eye makeup on because I know how much of a pain in the ass it is to remove. But with this balm, there’s no worry about that.

I’ll then go in and double-cleanse and use the CeraVe Foaming Cleanser. This is another staple. Simple and affordable. The bottles last for ages too. This then just cleans up any extra residue left on my face and leaves my skin feeling so clean. It’s a great product because I find it doesn’t leave my skin feeling dry or stripped.

Step 2: giving my skin some extra love

Guess what time it is now… Yes, correct, it’s face mask time. At this point I’m an Elemis fan girl, but really, I go crazy for the Superfood Berry Boost and the Vital Veggie mask. They have lasted me ages. They never leave your skin feeling dry or sore. And they smell incredible too; it really gives an at-home spa feeling. Sadly, it’s been discontinued, so yes, I did cry for 6.5 days. I have some leftover, so I do still use these in my routine.

I was kindly sent the award-winning Sand and Sky Australian clay mask, which is just as amazing. This definitely feels more drying once it goes on, as it’s a clay mask; however, once you rub it off, it has your skin feeling polished and so clear! So I’d definitely recommend this one. It’s very gentle for sensitive skin too, which is always my worry with clay masks but Sand and Sky have nailed their formula. Plus, it smells divine and the pots are adorable.

Step 3: targeted skincare

Okay next up, the products I really can’t live without… I know I have said this to everything in this blog, but I’m being for real. This one is a game changer. I highly recommend if you have combination skin and suffer with closed comedones. These are the skin-coloured bumps just under the skin, so they aren’t quite spots, but in certain light they can look more prominent, and in other light your skin can look clear. It’s the Benzoyl Peroxide Spot Treatment Gel from Acnecide. It’s cheap and really helps me with these spots and any breakout. You can see the difference in my Skincare Routine for Glowing Skin blog post.

After using this treatment, I sometimes use the Apricot Toning Treatment from Elemis, as the benzoyl peroxide can be drying. Especially if I’ve double-cleansed. But I will judge this by how my skin is feeling on the day because if I’ve had lots of makeup looks and changes on set, my skin may feel a little too sensitive to pile any toners on.

Step 4: sealing it all in

Finally, the end of the routine, which is moisturising and locking in all the hydration, allowing my skin to reset overnight. I use the Elemis Superfood Midnight Facial. A friend bought me this product years ago in a gift set, and when I say I fell in love, I fell in love. It’s quite a thick moisturiser at first, so a little goes a very long way. But it never feels thick on the skin. You just have to try it to get it. It is definitely worth the money, probably my favourite product that Elemis makes. And the pot lasts for ages because you only need a tiny, pea-sized amount. You go to sleep and wake up looking like a glazed doughnut. Big slay! It really does give you that dewy skin, and it fits in perfectly to this routine. I travel everywhere with this product; they do little travel-sized bottles, and it really does work wonders. You get that perfect plumpness, and it never leaves your face looking or feeling greasy. It’s definitely on the pricier side, but it’s 100% worth it.

A little reminder

So that’s it. This is my post-shoot skincare routine after a long day on set, and it’s a routine I always come back to. I wake up feeling like my skin has been revived. It’s a simple routine but refined and effective. So as I said earlier, be patient on your skincare journey and do lots of research. For reference, I have combination skin, and it can be sensitive to products. At one point, I kid you not, I thought my skin was allergic to water! I would shower and it would burn. Anyone that knows me knows my skin can just peel with a tiny scratch. On the other note, the right products are amazing, but nothing beats home remedies. So don’t sleep on these either; stay hydrated, eat well and look after your body from the inside, as this is key to healthy, clear and dewy skin. You can spend hundreds on skincare, but if you aren’t looking after your gut health, changing pillowcases and staying hygienic, there’s no point. It takes balance.

I’d love to know if you try any of these products and your thoughts on them, or if you have your own go to skincare routine in the comments below.

Love,
