Welcoming Autumn: My Wellness Essentials

Hello hello❤️

As the summer comes to an end, it’s time to welcome autumn. Personally, I love a cosy season, so I’m really looking forward to it. I adapt a lot of my routine to fit the seasons. So here are my autumn wellness essentials and things I’m doing to help season sync and slow down for the chillier days ahead. But to also live this season more intentionally and remain present. Enjoying every moment, even the little things. Creating luxury in small habits and with small rituals. To overcome the tiredness and work alongside it to ensure I’m feeling my best as we come towards the last quarter of the year.

Set the autumn mood

Now this is arguably the funnest part. Create space for the new season. I mean, start packing away your summer wardrobe, items and anything that you would like to leave behind in the summer seasons. Add some more colour, decorate your space, and add fluffy cosy blankets and plenty of candles with your favourite warm scents. A top tip I swear by is, anytime you bring something new in, clear out an old item you no longer need. Give it away to charity, donate it or sell it. This helps you stop hoarding and makes these clear-outs way less painful and boring. Organisation is the key to a less chaotic life!

Nice-smelling candles will always be one of my autumn wellness essentials, and my current favourite has to be the M&S Apothecary candle. My home smells like the spa, and I love it. This is my go-to candle for the autumn months. When I light this candle, I know it’s time to give back to myself. It brings a small element of luxury into my everyday routine, which always sets the tone for a good day.

Plus, nothing beats good ambient music with seasonal visuals while drinking something warm and, of course, snuggling with the pups.

New season, new skin needs

Naturally, as we enter autumn and the air gets more crisp, my skin tends to be on the drier side. In particular, my under-eyes and lips. So I move away slightly from my summer skincare routine, which tends to be very light, and I add a little more to help focus on these areas.

So I’ve started using these eye patches from Cosrx in the hope that they will help combat any under-eye dryness, and so far I’m really liking them. They seem to hydrate my under-eyes and are a really great product for sensitive skin.

My under-eyes can be very temperamental depending on what time of the month I’m on, but I don’t react to these. Plus, I love the feeling of waking up and putting them on fresh skin or after a nice pamper just before bed. And to be honest I could probably head out with them, haha, and run a few errands, as they look kind of chic.

Another staple in the autumn months, I swap out my daytime moisturiser for the Elemis Midnight Facial, which has a thicker consistency at first but then seeps into the skin beautifully. I use it both day and night. It adds that extra hydration back to my skin and has it looking and feeling so plump and glowy even in the gloomy months.

My other skincare products remain the same. It’s small, subtle changes to the routine that work well. You can read my full updated skincare routine.

Movement, even on the gloomy days

Okay, we can all admit, as the days get darker and the sun shines less, we lack the motivation to work out and move our bodies. We usually just want to curl up, and getting out of bed when it’s dark out is 100 times harder. But how do we make it easier?

Channel your ‘better’ self. Put on your favourite gym set if that makes you feel good. Have it laid out the night before so it’s much easier to pick up and put on in the morning. Wear matching sets; book a gym or Pilates class – something to hold you accountable; or bring a friend along to the gym with you. Put on your favourite lip combo. I know for some reason, if I do my hair, wear my favourite gym set and put on my go-to lip product, which is Clinique Black Honey, I feel like I can take on the world. It really gives me this burst of motivation to move my body.

Fuel from within

My autumn wellness essentials aren’t just about what I’m using on the outside, but they’re about what I’m putting into my body too. It’s all about the seasonal nutrition and warmer, wholesome meals. Weirdly, I get hungrier during the autumn and winter months, and my body always craves hot meals. So, I always carve out a little extra time when I can to cook something my heart desires. Some of my favourite dishes are lamb lasagne, a good salmon soup with fresh bread, and stuffed aubergine.

I make sure, as I tend to lack a little energy, that I do not skip meals. I aim to have my 3 meals a day and stick to a consistent routine when I can. It’s all about balance and discovering what works for your body.

I also make sure I am very hydrated. It is always harder to drink water when its not smoking hot outside. To also make sure I am taking everything I need, so I swear by chlorophyll drops and these electrolyte sachets from Virtue.

My favourite-ever kitchen appliance is my Ninja for making the best soups! It’s such a handy blender and really gives you so many options. It blends things so well, and I can use it for multiple things.

Romanticise the darker evenings

Let’s change our mindset. Instead of looking at the dark in a negative, depressive way, let’s try and romanticise it and have a positive outlook on the darkness approaching. Dark = cosy. I always make the darker evenings something I look forward to. So I’ll make sure I have my favourite Nap Co silk pj sets on; I run warm, candlelit baths and put fairy lights on in my room. I have my favourite autumn body scents, which are currently the Rituals Sakura collection. It smells unbelievable, and I always get a tonne of compliments after wearing it.

I usually set the autumn mood by being a little more intentional with my nighttime routine. For example, instead of plonk into bed and be exhausted, I like to set the mood for sleep. I like to get into bed a little earlier, be wrapped up in cosy blankets and lots of pillows, have candles on all around my room and just take a moment to really breathe. Let go of all the tensions I have held form the day, knowing that I showed up and did my best and now its time for rest and recovery.

Reset and refocus

One of my autumn wellness essentials is always leaving space and time to check with myself. I usually do it in the morning as part of my morning rituals. But the day can get chaotic, so if I miss it in the morning, I make sure I do it before bed. I make sure to journal and do my gratitude lists, and I like to set intentions for the last quarter of the year.

I love doing it with my LED face mask on, as it allows me to really get in the zone and connect with myself. I’ll take anything that helps me reconnect with myself, and I often find pampering myself alongside journaling helps so much.

And lastly, a reminder that there is beauty in every single season, and it’s an opportunity to reset instead of restart.

These are my current autumn wellness essentials that make the transition into the colder months that little bit easier.
